What do you mean by Scandinavian Learning?
Our core pillars are inspired by a mindset and pedagogy that prevails in Scandinavian countries that prepares warm and safe environments for children to trust and engage with their learning.
I don’t have any connection to Scandinavia, does that matter?
That’s OK! We are a visionary school combining British and Scandinavian methods in our teaching. While Dania was founded by Danish parents and attracted many families with strong Scandinavian connections, the school has grown and diverse families who share a unique vision for their children’s education.
My family is from Denmark/Sweden/Finland/Norway!
Hej! While following the British National Curriculum, our school draws from the Scandinavian education models that focus on building a strong community of confident learners.
What languages are taught?
All instruction is provided in English with mother-tongue language lessons available, depending on the needs of our students. We have native Danish, Norwegian and Swedish speakers on staff. We offer French for our non-Scandinavian students.
Is London Scandinavian School accredited?
Yes! As of May 2017, we are a fully accredited member of the Independent School Association and are inspected every 3 years by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). You can read the latest inspection report by clicking here.
Will my child make the same progress as their peers in traditional schools?
While our school emphasises both the social and emotional development of the children we ensure that children are continually progressing and tracking on target for their age group. This is done through a combination of relationship-based assessments as well as standardised benchmarks.
Why did you change your name?
In the 10 years since the school has evolved from a school that primarily attracted Danish families in London, to a school that attracts London families from all backgrounds. Reflecting this shift, the school has responded by changing its name in 2023 to London Scandinavian School.
The name London Scandinavian School describes its unique community And experience. Straddling multiple cultures requires a strong set of skills that centre around confidence. Our school is firmly placed in London, yet supports children that consider Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and other countries both inside and out of Scandinavia, home.
What is the school’s history?
The London Scandinavian school was founded as Dania School in 2013 by members of the Danish community in London, inspired by a parent wishing to provide their children with a learning experience similar to the one she had growing up in Denmark.
